Notes from academy meeting 4-21
Graded SCR’s looking for mechanics. Good discussions on sentence structure. Run on sentences was a common problem in most student samples.
Ms. Courtney suggested kids making a list of the number of words in a sentence to help identify run-on sentences.
Use of Brace Maps was modeled (Courtney) help students summarize.
Short 30-min meeting.
Purple Tech team Meeting minutes 1-27
In attendance: Nolan, Wall Nkwelle, Dater, Linkous, Mizani
Metty discussed a math focus for all curriculums. He asked teachers to use Percentage and Proportion. Teachers can use pie charts, raw numbers into percent, and parts-to-total.
Dater discussed SCR’s. Improvement has been shown on the latest assessment. But focus needs to be on the Prompts. Teachers can teach students to look at the verbs in the prompt to decide what is being asked.
Also, LA Teachers are focusing on Long Constructed Responses (LCR). The teachers are working with Compare and Contrast. Thinking Maps (double bubble maps) work great for this. All teachers need to push the writing process (plan, draft, and revise). Thinking maps are beneficial for planning and if the student does this properly, the draft can be written easily. All LCR’s must have an intro, body, and conclusion.
Teachers must set clear expectations for writing. As a school we must have clarity and be consistency concerning student writing.
Learning walks will be scheduled in the future.
Parent Conference Night is set for Feb. 5, 2009
